Toledo History History Museum is Moving

We're excited to announce our move to the Valentine Building, 425 St. Clair Street. We'll be opening our new location on October 6th!  Thank you all for your support, we would not be able to make this move without your financial assistance and encouragement! Stay tuned for more news about our move and our first major exhibit: Christmas in Toledo coming in late November.

Why is THM Moving?

Simply put, it's time.  Our current site was always intended to serve as a start up location.  It has served us well but fortunately, it is time to move on to bigger, more accessible space. As THM was looking for potential new sites, our primary objectives were greater visibility and accessibility as well as museum-quality, climate-controlled exhibition and storage space for our growing collections. Both of these elements are lacking at our current space. Another goal was to enhance the visitor experience both in the museum and the surrounding envirionment. The Valentine Building located at 425 St. Clair in downtown Toledo meets all of these criteria.

The new location is far more central, more visible, and more accessible than the current space in the Milmine-Steward House in Toledo's Old West End. The new site is situated in the downtown core within easy walking distance to the Valentine Theatre, Imagination Station, Promenade Park, Fifth-Third Field and the Huntington Center.  It will provide ample parking for cars and buses. We hope these qualities will help to position THM prominently as a Toledo cultural amenity.

The historic Valentine building will accommodate functions and will meet modern museum standards for exhibition and collection storage, allowing THM to lend and borrow artifacts from other institutions.

Finally, while meeting all of our objectives, the new site makes THM the proud steward of a historically significant local landmark in a vibrant downtown setting.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE Milmine-stewart HOUSE?

The owner of the Mimine-Steward House will continue to operate the building as a stand-alone antiques market.

WILL THM OWN THE new space FREE AND CLEAR?

No. We were able to negotiate a very favorable renewable lease arrangement with the Toledo Cultural Arts Center, owners of the building and long-time supporters of THM and its mission.

CAN I PUT MY NAME ON SOMETHING IN THE NEW SPACE

Absolutely! To learn about Named Giving Opportunities, please contact Tedd Long at 419-708-3925.
